How do you take a hard drive apart?

The teardown, in order:
- Peel the top label to find the hidden screw, and remove all perimeter Torx screws.
- Lift the top cover. Under it: the shiny platters and the actuator arm.
- Unscrew the small magnet brackets at the corner of the arm — pry the neodymium magnets off their steel plates (they are glued and very strong; mind your fingers).
- Remove the platters (aluminum ones go to clean aluminum; glass platters are waste and can shatter — handle with care).
- Unscrew the controller board from the underside — this is a premium board grade, so keep it separate from low-grade boards.

Destroy the data before you scrap
